SAN MATEO, CA – August 22, 2006 – The San Mateo New Main Library, opening Sunday, August 27, 2006, will be flying a New Logo for the 21st Century Library. The new brand not only represents the new “green” energy-efficient, sustainable building, but it defines a new era of expanded services and resources available to the community.
Three key elements of the new design are: Inspire, Grow and Connect. The library is a place for personal growth and fulfillment; a place to build community relationships; and a conduit between people and forward thinking technology. The new design is reminiscent of a flower, a sunrise, a spark of light or the leaves of a book opened up.
THUNDER FACTORY, an integrated marketing and communications firm headquartered in San Mateo, worked with Library Staff and Library Trustees to develop the library’s service brand into a new dynamic image.
“San Mateo’s New Main Library is not only an instant Bay Area landmark, but also a living, breathing part of the community,” said Patrick U. Di Chiro, Chairman and CEO of THUNDER FACTORY. “We wanted the new logo to capture the inspiration and dynamism that are at the heart of the new library and that will drive its growth and success for the future. We are incredibly proud to have been a part of this exciting project.”
San Mateo Main Library is a state-of-the-art resource center for literacy and ongoing learning; a destination that is inviting, comfortable and accessible, a place for families, community groups and people of all ages; and a vibrant bridge to multicultural understanding.
This landmark public library features 100 public internet computers, specially designed areas for children and teens, study rooms, community meeting rooms, a café and 157 underground parking spaces. Specialized resources: the Genentech Foundation Biotechnology Learning Center, the Franklin Templeton Investments Business Resource Center, the Kenneth & Sherrilyn Fisher Journalism Center and the InfoSeekers-Student Research Center – a joint program with the San Mateo-Foster City School District to assist 4th and 5th grade students and their parents with school assigned research projects.
